You will have heard a lot this year about the 3DS but what exactly is it?

The 3DS is a handheld glasses free 3D gaming console from Nintendo which was launched in spring of 2011.

The device was the first of its kind with a parallax barrier autostereoscopic screen used to display three dimensional images.

On its first day of release in Japan the Nintendo sold 400,000 units and this milestone device continues to sell strongly all over the world.
